Incident Date: August 11, 2026
A woman in Chicago was forced to defend herself early Tuesday morning after a man tried to break into her home.
Police say the 30‑year‑old intruder opened the woman’s window screen around 5:00 a.m. while standing on her front porch. The woman armed herself and shot the man in the arm when he continued attempting to gain entry.
After firing, she immediately called 911. A neighbor also contacted police after hearing the gunshot.
The wounded man allegedly staggered across the street, collapsed, and screamed that he had been shot. By the time officers arrived, he had already left the scene and later checked himself into a hospital.
Investigators say no charges are expected against the woman, and the case appears to be a clear instance of self‑defense.
