A 23‑year‑old man in Riverton, Utah, Ofa’tangikivaha Angilau, was shot and killed last Friday after storming back into a Holiday Oil gas station armed with a shotgun.
Police say Angilau first entered the store attempting to buy alcohol but didn’t have ID. The clerk followed the law and refused the sale. Angilau left, drove around for a short time, then returned furious, this time carrying a shotgun.
Early reports claiming Angilau fired the weapon were incorrect. But inside the store was a good guy with a gun who recognized the threat and acted immediately to protect the clerk, himself, and other customers.
The armed citizen shot Angilau, who stumbled out of the store and collapsed in the parking lot, dying from his injuries. Riverton Police say the good guy with a gun is cooperating fully with investigators.
This is just another example of a good guy with a gun stopping what could have been the murder of an innocent clerk simply doing his job and following the law.
