Flock CEO Calls Privacy Critics “Terrorists” as Backlash Explodes

The Chief Executive Officer of Flock Safety, Garrett Langley, claims one of the main opponents of his company’s surveillance network is a terrorist organization.

Langley co‑founded Flock, an Atlanta‑based company launched in 2017. He’s been on the defensive lately as the company faces growing scrutiny from U.S. citizens over its rapidly expanding AI‑powered surveillance system. Flock now operates in over 5,000 communities, making Alaska the only state without Flock cameras.

A seven‑month‑old interview clip of Langley has recently gone viral. In the video, Langley labels Deflock, a project run by software engineer and privacy advocate Will Freeman, as a terrorist organization. Deflock is a crowdsourced website that maps the locations of Flock cameras nationwide.

Langley argues that Deflock encourages actions against Flock that fall “outside the bounds of the law.” He contrasts them with the ACLU, which also opposes Flock but does so through legal channels.

What’s striking is Langley’s claim that Flock cameras were “not forced on anyone.” Yet in many communities, police departments signed contracts with Flock without informing residents. No public votes. No community hearings. No consent from the people now being monitored.

Social media posts we reviewed show growing frustration from citizens who say they had no say in the mass surveillance Flock has brought to the United States. Many describe it as Orwellian, a modern 1984 scenario, and fundamentally opposed to the principles the country was founded on.

Deflock’s X account responded to Langley’s “terrorist” accusation after a user pointed out that opposition to Flock now spans both sides of the political aisle.

If Langley felt this strongly seven months ago, you can imagine how he feels now.

Gun owners are raising alarms as well. Flock’s ability to track vehicles visiting gun stores, gun shows, or shooting ranges has many worried that their lawful activities are being monitored and logged.
