35 GOP Senators Back the HPA — So Why Won’t Leadership Move It?

S.364, the Hearing Protection Act, has been dead in the water since the day it was introduced in February 2025. No movement. No hearings. No votes. Nothing.

Yes, there’s a lawsuit working its way through the courts on suppressor regulation, but that could take years. Gun owners shouldn’t have to sit around and wait while politicians drag their feet.

Republicans could be moving this bill right now. They control the Senate, the House, and the White House. They have the power to advance pro‑gun legislation. Instead, in classic GOP fashion, they talk a big game about defending the Second Amendment, then refuse to actually push the ball downfield.

And spare us the “we don’t have 60 votes” excuse. I heard the same lazy line in the Idaho Capitol, lawmakers shrugging and saying, “Well, the votes aren’t there.” That’s not leadership. That’s hiding.

If you never force a vote, you never force accountability. Put the bill on the floor and make every Senator go on record. Who knows, you might even peel off a few Democrats willing to support suppressor reform. But you’ll never know if you don’t try.

S.364 was introduced by Senator Mike Crapo (R‑ID) and currently has 34 cosponsors, meaning 35 Republican Senators publicly support it. That leaves 18 Republican holdouts who still haven’t signed on.

And you can bet every one of those 18 tells their voters they’re “strong Second Amendment champions.”

Gun owners deserve better than empty slogans. They deserve action.
