ICYMI: Sheehy Pushes Nationwide Carry for Special Forces Under HR 8332

Republican Senator Tim Sheehy (MT), a former Navy SEAL, has introduced the Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act (HR 8332), a bill that would give qualified special operators the same nationwide concealed‑carry privileges currently afforded to retired law enforcement officers.

Under the proposal, designated special‑operations personnel could carry a firearm anywhere in the United States, regardless of state‑level restrictions. They would still need to complete specific training requirements to obtain the permit.

Gun owners online appear split.

Some argue the bill is a step toward expanding carry rights for all Americans. Others say it doesn’t go far enough, simply carving out another government‑based exception instead of restoring full carry rights to the general public.

Sheehy defended the bill in a statement:

“Our Special Operations Forces spend their careers protecting the American people with unmatched discipline, judgment, and professionalism. This bill honors that reality by giving qualified special operators the same nationwide concealed carry privileges already afforded to retired law enforcement officers. Our elite warfighters never stop serving, and this bill ensures the law reflects the trust they’ve earned through a lifetime of sacrifice.”

The debate now shifts to whether HR 8332 is a meaningful expansion of Second Amendment freedom, or just another narrow carve‑out.
